An exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Engineer to join one of Australia's leading Big4 Banks, working on a Greenfield project within the Business & Wealth area of the bank.

Playing an individual contributor role, you will support 10 engineering squads, working on building a loans originations platform from scratch. All code has been written from scratch within the past year, no legacy tech and building a data platform to support future AI automations at the bank!

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of backend services and microservices using Java and Spring.
• Collaborate with engineering squads on full-stack development across Java, JavaScript and React - Supporting microservices and micro-frontend architecture.
• Work on large-scale, enterprise-level systems, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Leverage event streaming and messaging platforms such as Kafka for real-time data processing.
• Oversee cloud-native deployments using Kubernetes and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines.
• Mentor and guide engineering teams while driving best practices in software development and architecture.
• Engage with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.

Key Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in backend development with Java, including expertise in building APIs and microservices.
• Full-stack development experience, particularly with JavaScript, React, and microfrontends.
• Experience working on complex, large-scale enterprise systems.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies like Kubernetes.
• Strong experience with Kafka and CI/CD pipelines.
• Computer Science degree or strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
• Passionate about learning new technologies and staying updated with the latest industry trends.
• Interest or experience in AI/chatbots (nice to have).
